The First Best Place Task Force

is a grassroots organization seeking to promote economic development in the Columbia Falls area and to improve the quality of life for our community.

The Task Force intends to create a thriving environment by building on the area’s colorful history and unique connection to its natural setting.

The vision is to promote Columbia Falls area, the longest living community in the Flathead Valley, as The First Best Place.

Once the town square and commerce center of Columbia Falls, Glacier Discovery Square is destined to once again become the center of town, and the center of interest for visitors interested in learning the history and culture of Columbia Falls and Glacier National Park.

Centennial Month

at Glacier Discovery Square

 We have set up March as our month to really kick off the 2010 Glacier Park Centennial Celebration in Columbia Falls.March will be chock full of Park related activities. Here are a few early highlights to mark on your calendar:

March 12th 6pm: Glacier Authors Book Fair 

Join several celebrated local authors as they present slides and discussions, and autograph copies of their books. A fun event with music, snacks and more!

 

March 19th 6pm: 100 Days of Glacier Unveiling

Come see the spectacular imagery of local superstar photographer Chris Peterson's 100 Days of Glacier Project. This event marks the official unveiling of the project, with dozens of beautiful prints available to enjoy and purchase. 

We'll have tasty appetizers and a fine selection of wines from O'Brien's. 

 Proceeds from the evening - including print sales will go to support First Best Place projects

 

March 25th 6pm: Columbia Falls High School Centennial Art Gallery Night

We unveil, gallery-style, the incredible collection of art created by CFHS art students to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Glacier National Park. 

Dress up a bit, and come enjoy some wonderful appetizers and beverages, and celebrate our fabulously talented students!

 

Ongoing throughout the month: Lectures, slideshows, films, seminars, and more -- all related to glorious Glacier National Park

 

North Valley Music School

Music Lessons in Columbia Falls!


North Valley Music School and the First Best Place have teamed up to bring violin, piano, voice, and viola lessons to Glacier Discovery Square

 North Valley Music School’s mission is to enrich the musical life of the community through music education and performance.  They have been doing just that in Whitefish for the past 10 years and currently have over 600 students a year from babies to retirees.  For fall private lessons will be $64 per month (30 minutes once per week) with a $36 yearly registration fee. A 50% scholarship program is available for students who qualify for the federal school lunch program; reduced price lunch receive 25%
