Arbor Day Approaches my friends. >
Starting April 24th, all sorts of things are going on. Please go over to our home page and check out the calendar of events. We just added some gardening workshops to the schedule - COMPOSTING WITH WORMS on the 2nd at 11:30am with Kathie Lapcevic for example. So stay tuned for ever more cool stuff. On the 24th is the big ceremony with the official presentation of the State Arbor Day award. A play by the Boys & Girls Club, 7 different trees planted - one dedicated to each of our local schools; poetry from the kids, special speakers and presentations, all sorts of good stuff. April 25th is the Annual Clean the Falls Day. Help spruce up Columbia Falls. Meet at 9am at Glacier Bank for your clean-up assignment. The Glacier Park Fund will be hosting an interactive exhibit about the Park. Here's an exerpt from them about it: Losing a Legacy: Disappearing Glaciers, featuring Dan Fagre’s remarkable work: The photographic exhibition blends the science of climate change research with the aesthetic landscape photography from Glacier National Park by contrasting scanned images of prominent glaciers in the Park from the 1920’s with photographs of the same glaciers taken during the past decade.
Dan Fagre is a research ecologist and Climate Change Research coordinator with the USGS currently stationed at Glacier National Park. His mission is to understand how global-scale environmental changes will affect our mountain ecosystems. His work was most recently featured on the PBS series, NOW, which aired nationally this past weekend.· The exhibit will be on display starting April 24th to May 2 during the hours of 9 – 5 p.m. We are located on Highway 2 in Columbia Falls, 402 9th Street West. We hope to see you there!
For the entire week between the 24th and the 2nd, some 35 local merchants will be doing awesome special deals to celebrate the week. Pick up a Merchant Passport and take it around for deals at all the businesses. Then, once you've gotten 18 stamped, drop the passport into the bucket for a major drawing with prizes from all the merchants. You score!!!!
In addition, all week we'll be planting trees all over town. Ck the calendar if you want to come participate in any of these. On April 29th, Chris Petersen will be presenting Confessions of a Citizen Scientist - slideshow, story, funny, good times. $2 donation requested at the door. More than worth it. The BIG EVENT is May 2nd: Community BBQ, fun family event, JACK GLADSTONE in concert with Jonathan Jenkins, vendors, education, gardening workshops, tree plantings, and all sorts of crazy fun! NOON TO 3:30 on Saturday the 2nd. Look, what I'm trying to tell you is that ARBOR DAY IS GOING TO ROCCCKKK this year! Don't miss it. What? are you just going to sit home all week doing nothing??
